And so on to another day, another poem. Two challenges blend seamlessly into one. #PoemADayForAYear and NaPoWriMo. Today’s prompt is to write a palinode – a retraction of a statement made in a previous poem. I contradict myself often so this shouldn’t be too hard.
The poem I have chosen is the one I wrote on 14/03/15.
You can walk in the woods
and see trees that have weathered
decades, centuries, survived where none have.
Turn around and the moon rises over a setting
sun, velvet pinks in double-illumination set over
a willow-fringed lake. Take another step
and you are stood on ocean-beaten
fjords, ink-skies ahead
splashed through with the green of aurora borealis.
A world full of beauty. Nature’s bounty for us to
share. The rarest thing of all – something good
But, when you consider that a phone case can also be a snow-globe,
who cares? That’s just too pretty.
I bought you a small
Lavender plant just to say,
I love that you’re mine.
