Often shows with an hour-long narrative start with a set-up that carries through from start to finish. The start of Late with Lance! is the set-up of the stage itself, with banners, glitz and and logo for this chat show all made from found objects.
Right from the off, the audience participation is wonderful, and that carries on throughout. As does the energy. The energy is Peter puts into the show is phenomenal. There are song-and-dance routines that made us tired just watching.
The story is that of an entertainer who has worked on a cruise ship for his two gay fathers. For this chat show, the audience is promised very special guests; guests that Lance keeps waiting on to contact him for the entire show. Eventually, audience members are pulled on to the stage in their place for wonderful interviews as the guests, Liza Minelli and Hugh Jackman.
Any chat show also needs commercial breaks, delivered by other audience members in what was the most inventive ‘bucket speech’ we saw.
It was a thrill to see this show. It all culminated in a fantastic ending, which we will not reveal to you here as it was quite the surprise!
All in all, this is a show that needs to be seen. The energy will carry you through the rest of the day and is highly recommended.
